Artist Bio
Brazilian artist Carlos Adissi is an international figure through South America for his ground breaking work in abstraction.
For almost a decade, he has dedicated himself totally to painting, developing and participating in several projects. He is one of the founders of the USINA 14 Art Collective and remains an active participant in its coordination.
In his works, he presents themes related to the essence of being. Carlos injects rhythm and movement in his paintings, at once using continuous strokes and overlapping textures that develop into complex images of light and shadow. The luminous points of his art are complemented by the rich, dark layers, representing visions originating in the unconscious. In this way, he seeks to stimulate the observer to focus on and merge the images in their own unconscious.
Artist Statement
My work is a way of feeling present and
connected to everything around me. Like
many theories defended by philosophies
such as metaphysics and the theory of
Gaia, for example, I believe that we are
connected to each other through a huge
tangle of atoms. In this way, any and all
actions taken by me and other things can
affect our cosmos to a greater or lesser
extent.
I make the brush and my painting tools
extensions of my body; through which I
believe I interact with the universe. On
canvas, I add my sensations and feelings
through gestures, stains and layers of
paint. Through this meditative and
performative work, I believe to reaffirm the
impermanence of life and its unstoppable
flow of energy, events and time.
My production revolves around various
periods of my life and symbolically convey
how I face each period. In this selection of
10 works I present some of my points of
view in relation to various events
experienced by me. The paintings in this
selection take on themes such as pain,
grief, and the joy of living. They represent
my way of seeing and being in the world.
